Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce married in Madison Square Garden on July 3.
According to one of the guests, people initially thought this important part of the ceremony was “a joke.”
“Everybody laughed,” he said of Adam Sandler’s officiating role.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcemarried in a lavish, glitzy ceremony in Madison Square Garden on July 3. Although the couple were careful to keep the big day private, some of the 1,000 guests have begun to share a few details about the event. During a July 17 appearance on “The Compound” podcast, American Century Investments CEO Jonathan Thomas opened up about his experience attending the “very solemn, very sincere, very emotional” wedding—including one part of the ceremony that all of the guests reportedly thought was a joke.
Apparently, people couldn’t quite believe that the couple had chosen Adam Sandler as their officiant.

“Adam Sandler … came down [the aisle], everybody laughed and thought it was a joke at first,” said Thomas. “He probably spoke for 20 or 30 minutes, vacillated between funny, very sincere [and] sang a few things.”
While Sandler’s role was not a joke, the actor did throw a joke into his speech.

“In your typical vows the officiator says, ‘For rich or for poor.’ Adam said, ‘You’re not going to have to worry about that,’” Thomas said. “His key message was [to] kiss each other every day, in the morning, at night [and] after dinner.”

Thomas also recalled Kelce and Swift’s vows. Kelce “spoke for 30 minutes,” Thomas said, adding that he was holding back tears. As for Swift, her vows were “poetic.”
“The vows and the ceremony were very solemn, very sincere, very emotional,” he added. “Then, they opened up [the venue and] you walk through this massive castle that they built.”
Sandler also reportedly gave the couple one piece of advice: to “keep kissing.”
Sandler and Kelce previously worked together when Kelce made a cameo appearance in Sandler’s film Happy Gilmore 2. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Sandler said, “Travis is such a gentle, nice guy, and funny as hell,” before he added that Swift is “incredible.”
