Brooklyn Nets guard Mikel Brown Jr. had some hype coming into the 2026 NBA Las Vegas Summer League after being selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Brooklyn made the choice of choosing Brown to be their point guard of the future and while he has some things to work on, his performance at the event was well-received by others around the league.
"Brown dealt with a lingering back injury during his one year at Louisville, but looked healthy and recovered at Summer League," Krysten Peek wrote for NBA.com when discussing Brown. Brown had some awe-inspiring moments over the course of his time in Las Vegas, but the fact that he was able to play more as the summer tournament went on was encouraging as well.
"The 6-foot-5 guard was great alongside Egor DÑ‘min as the duo played well in the Summer League backcourt," Peek continued. "Brown played three games for the Nets and had the hot hand at times in the second half. Overall, in Las Vegas he posted 16.7 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 4 apg and 1.7 spg while shooting 39.5% overall and 33.3% on 3-pointers in 22.5 mpg."

Brown, 20, finished the Las Vegas Summer League averaging 16.7 points, 4.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 39.5% from the field and 33.3% from behind the three-point line in three games played. Brown will likely head into training camp with the chance of competing with Nolan Traore and Ben Saraf for the starting point guard spot with Egor Demin likely slated to be the starting shooting guard.
As Peek alluded to, what made Brown's time in Las Vegas encouraging was the fact that he was able to co-exist with Egor Demin, who looked like one of the best players in the entire summer league. Brown will have to improve on his efficiency shooting the ball and taking care of it, but as just an initial impression, it looks like he showed enough to make others look at him favorably.
