Josh Peck reflected on how much money he really made on Drake & Josh
He said that he and Drake Bell saw their pay cut in half between agents, managers, and taxes

Josh Peck is opening up about how much money he and Drake Bell really made from Drake & Josh.
Peck, 39, reflected on his early career and his first paychecks on the June 25 episode of the Financial Tea with Mrs. Dow Jones podcast. “I came from a lot of financial insecurity,” Peck explained. He was raised by a single mom and said they shifted between being “lower middle class” and “being broke.” His mom, Barbara, worked in sales, and sometimes they had “a great year,” but sometimes he was calling his grandma to ask for money for dinner.
Peck got into acting when he began appearing on The Amanda Show at age 13. The sketch comedy series often paired him with Bell, now 40. “We started out making $3,000 an episode on The Amanda Show,” he said of him and Bell.
In 2004, Bell and Peck became the leads of their own series. “By the time we finished Drake & Josh, so that was, like, 60 episodes total for the whole show. The median rate, the average rate per episode was about $15,000,” Peck shared. “So over four years, we wound up making about 900 grand.”

They didn't actually receive that much money for the four seasons of the show. “But between agent, manager and taxes, we cleared half of that,” Peck said. “We were making about $125,000 a year.”
He said that people often point out that other people do “tougher jobs” and he couldn't complain, and he agreed. “The only reason I say it is because . . . people always assume that it's so much more, and why would you ever have to work again?” he said. “But of course, if you made the salary of a dentist or something like that, you couldn't just stop working after four years.”

On Drake & Josh, Peck played Josh Nichols, the stepbrother to Bell's Drake Parker, who couldn't be more different. The series, which ended in 2007, also starred Nancy Sullivan and Jonathan Goldstein as Drake's mom and Josh's dad, respectively, and Miranda Cosgrove as Drake's devious younger sister Megan.
From then on, Peck explained on the podcast, he became the breadwinner of his family. “If you have it ingrained in you that you never want to be broke again, you will run like your pants are on fire for as long as you can. And I have,” he said. “And I saw that in myself forever, just a deep financial insecurity that drove everything I did.”

That financial insecurity made him “very obsessive, in bad ways” about small amounts of money and he “couldn't see the big picture.” He would “punish” himself over late fees and a parking ticket would have “floored” him.
“When we finished doing a show when I was 19 years old, I had a little bit of a runway, but I had to get to work,” he said. The money could only support him and his mom for so long.
At the same time, he said, “I feel very lucky that at that age I had to figure out what was next.” He's since starred in shows like Grandfathered,How I Met Your Father and The Last of Us and in movies like Oppenheimer and the film series Ice Age.
